Kelvin Momo (Born Thato Kelvin Ledwaba in Diepkloof, Soweto in 1994) is a pioneer of “private school amapiano,” a subgenre of amapiano that incorporates jazz, deep house, and lounge influences.

He released singles in 2019 including the haunting “Abantu Bethu” with C.A. Souls and the breezy smash “Yelele” with Luu Nineleven and DJ Stoks, and was widely featured on the influential label House Afrika’s Mzansi House collection.

Momo’s Private School, the producer’s 2020 debut album, is driven by darting notes and sumptuous pads, replacing amapiano’s characteristic grit with a refined sheen, resulting in a stone-cold classic, released under amapiano pioneer Kabza De Small’s label Piano Hub.

He followed up the album with the EP Bayeke, which he co-wrote with his spouse, producer/vocalist Babalwa M, in the same year.
